Business Center in Ivano-Frankivsk
The Business Center in Ivano-Frankivsk has been in operation for more than one year. At the present time it has a staff of over 25 highly qualified professionals. All are Ukrainian citizens and are residents of Ivano-Frankivsk. The Director of the Business Center is Jerry Jaroslaw Kozubal, a Canadian with over 25 years of management and consulting experience. The Business Center is a Joint-Venture project between Canada and Ukraine. It is currently the largest project in Ukraine that is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency. The project is formally known as the Small Business and Economic Development in Ivano-Frankivsk or SBEDIF. The partners in this project from the Ukrainian side include the Oblast Administration of Ivano-Frankivsk and the City Administration of Ivano-Frankivsk. The Canadian partners include Confederation College in Thunder Bay, who is responsible for overall project management, the University of Waterloo, the University of Saskatchewan, and Parkland Community Futures Corporation from the Province of Manitoba. The Canadian partners provide technical support and coordination to the various programs that are being delivered through the Business Center. The project has an objective to train local entrepreneurs in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast on how to enter and succeed in a market economy. Ukraine is currently going through a transition period from a centralized economy to a free market economy. The shift in thinking and business management techniques requires that new and existing businesses in Ukraine need to understand modern business concepts and practises. This is particularly important for Ukrainian companies that wish to do business with companies in other countries. The SBEDIF Business Center offers a wide variety of programs and services to individual and business clients in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Business Consulting We have 4 business consultants who provide clients with assistance in preparing business plans, advice on the legal and technical aspects of operating a business in Ukraine. The Northwest Enterprise Center of Confederation College is providing training and technical assistance to our business consulting program. Contact person: Yuri Tsjaputa The Business Centre has a loan fund for small business. The loan fund provides assistance to local businesses. To date we have approved 10 loans that have created 65 new jobs. Loans can be to a maximum $10,000 US and a 36 months term. All loans are fully secured by a lease agreement and the equipment is insured by a local insurance broker. We have a fund of $350,000 US and we plan to provide approximately 40 loans per year. Parkland Community Futures Corporation is providing technical assistance to the loan program. Contact person: Roman Shevchyk Economic Development Program has been established in partnership with local and regional Economic Development authorities. Training in economic development techniques has been provided by the University of Waterloo to local Economic Development Officers and community development organizations. The program has developed community profiles and computerized economic database, conducted market research and established an Economic Development Association in Ivano-Frankivsk. Contact person: Gennadiy Rusanov The Business Centre provides a service to encourage trade missions between Ivano-Frankivsk and other countries. Our trade mission program matches Ukrainian and foreign companies wishing to explore new business opportunities. Through the use of modern computer technology we can provide information on company profiles and business opportunities. Our Resource Centre can provide information on how to conduct business in Ukraine and access to other Business Centre services. Entrepreneurship Training Program At the Business Centre we provide entrepreneurship training to Ukrainian business clients. We have developed training modules for small business in the subjects of how to start a new business, marketing, financial planning, youth and women in entrepreneurship. Training is provided by Ukrainian staff and occasionally supplemented by experts from Confederation College and Canadian volunteers. The Business Center can also design and deliver courses to meet the specific needs of our business clients. Contact person: Yuriy Tsjaputa The Business Centre offers courses in English language training, starting at an introductory level and advancing to International Business English. We are currently offering 6 classes daily with 16 participants in each class. The popularity of our English classes is forcing us to look at offer more classes in the near future. Our instructors are Ukrainian citizens who have received certification in English language instruction from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. In addition, the Business Centre has been providing a special 3 year course for Ukrainian teachers who teach English classes throughout the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Contact person: Anatolij Furda Computer Training Program The Business Centre is equipped with modern, state of the art computer technologies. In October 1997 we are planning to offer computer courses in operating systems, MS Office software and Internet technology. Contact person: Paul Podoprigora Desktop Publishing & Web Development We offer our business clients desktop publishing services which include scanning documents and graphics, design and layout of books, magazines, business cards, posters, brochures and pre-press work (preparation for color separation). Web design and site-hosting is also available. Contact person: Paul Podoprigora Translation Department We provide translation of legal and technical documents. In addition we provide highly skilled interpreters for work in Ukraine and abroad. Our Department uses the leading edge computer technologies and can provide services through the Internet. We are proficient in translating documents in the following languages: Ukrainian, Russian, English, and German. Local and foreign business people can access e-mail, Internet and computer services. We also can offer our business clients the use of meeting rooms and conference facilities with the full array of audio-visual support.
